Outline
Collect data for future projections of climate change impacts on paddy rice, pests, wheat, soybean, vegetables, and fruits. Develop or improve methods or models that will be used for future projection. Conduct future projection of various items at a high spatial resolution (1 km grid) by using common future climate change and socioeconomic scenarios of the S-18 project. List adaptation options for each item and quantify the effects of promising adaptation options. Carry out economic evaluation, such as calculating the amount of financial damage caused by impacts and the cost of adaptation measures. Nationwide evaluation will be carried out in the second year for some of the items in which research is advanced, and fourth year for all items followed by the last year’s activity of analysis and interpretation of the results and its outreach.
Goals
- Collect data on future projections of climate change impacts on paddy rice, pests, wheat, soybean, vegetables, and fruits
- Develop or improve methods of future projection.
- Conduct future projection of various items at a high spatial resolution (1 km grid) by using common future climate change and socioeconomic scenarios of the S-18 project.
- Quantify the effects of adaptation options and carry out economic evaluation, such as calculating the amount of financial damage caused by impacts and the cost of adaptation measures.
Target items
- Paddy rice, pests, wheat, soybean, vegetables, fruits
Adaptation options
- Change transplanting (or sowing) date
- Use of heat-tolerant cultivars
